What We DO

Agriculture

Darakuta prioritises the maintaince of healthy, living soils, insect biodiversity and the prevention of environmental pollution using an integrated, sustainable approach to agriculture.

Though predominantly hilly miombo woodland, Darakuta has 300 acres of productive agricultural lands where we produce seed (beans, maize, flowers) as well as a small amount of sugar cane.

Our low-impact, sustainable ranching is ideally suited to Darakuta’s hilly topography and red loamy sand soils. These soils have thin organic layers and are problematic to cultivate due to their high sensitivity to leaching and erosion.

We use holistic and rotational grazing which has a low impact on the environment and allows the coexistence of our beef cattle with abundant wildlife

HYdropower

Hydroelectric power uses the natural flow of moving water to generate electricity, and accounts for one-third of Tanzania's total electricity generation capacity.

Darakuta contributes 300 KW/h  to the Tanzanian national grid using a "damless" run-of-river facility that channels a part of the Kou River through a powerhouse before it rejoins the main river.
